Text QR code generator
The only QR code that needs no internet at all. The words are inside the pattern, so scanning shows them instantly — in a warehouse basement, on a factory floor, anywhere with no signal.
- Free
- No sign-up
- No expiry
- Commercial use
A text QR code stores readable characters directly in the pattern instead of a link. Scanning displays the text on screen with no network request. It is the right choice for serial numbers, batch codes, maintenance instructions and any label that must work where there is no signal.
Cases where a link would be the wrong answer
- Asset tags. Equipment ID, purchase date and service interval printed on a sticker, readable in a plant room with no reception.
- Batch and lot codes. Production line, date, shift — scannable during a recall audit without opening a system.
- Maintenance notes. The three steps for resetting a machine, on the machine.
- Storage instructions. Temperature range and handling notes on a shipping crate.
- Seat and locker labels. Short identifiers that never change.
The pattern in all of these: the information is short, permanent, and needed exactly where a network is unreliable.
How much text actually fits
Byte mode capacity depends on the version and the error correction level. In practice you are choosing between a compact code and a resilient one.
| Characters | Version at level M | Grid | Printable at |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 | 2 | 25 × 25 | 15 mm |
| 100 | 5 | 37 × 37 | 22 mm |
| 250 | 9 | 53 × 53 | 30 mm |
| 500 | 13 | 69 × 69 | 40 mm |
| 1,000 | 19 | 93 × 93 | 55 mm |
| 2,331 | 40 | 177 × 177 | 95 mm |
Accented and non-Latin characters use two to four bytes each in UTF-8, so a line of Japanese or Arabic fills a code roughly three times faster than the same line of English.
Formatting that survives the scan
Line breaks are preserved and most scanner apps display them correctly. Tabs are unreliable — some apps collapse them. Keep lines under about 40 characters so they do not wrap awkwardly on a narrow phone screen.
One habit worth adopting: put the most important line first. Some scanner overlays show only the first line or two until the user taps to expand.
