Menu QR code generator

A table code that costs nothing per month and does not stop working when a subscription lapses. Point it at your menu page and print it once.

Short answer

A menu QR code links diners to your menu page on their own phone. Encode the URL of a mobile-friendly menu page, print the code on table tents or stickers, and it works permanently with no subscription — because the link is inside the pattern, not on a rented server.

Page, not PDF

The mistake that costs you orders

The most common QR menu is a PDF designed for A4 paper. On a phone it opens in a viewer, loads slowly, and demands pinch-zooming to read a price. Diners give up and ask the server, which defeats the purpose entirely.

What works instead:

  • A plain HTML page with headings for each course and prices in readable text.
  • Text large enough to read without zooming — 16 px minimum.
  • Dietary markers as text, not as a legend of tiny icons.
  • Under 500 KB total, so it loads on a busy restaurant's weak signal.
  • A visible last-updated date, so regulars know the specials are current.

If your website platform makes this hard, a single well-formatted page on any free host beats a beautiful PDF.

Printing

Sizes and materials that survive service

PlacementCode widthMaterial
Table tent, both faces35–40 mmLaminated card, matte finish
Table sticker30–35 mmVinyl with a matte laminate
Menu card corner25 mmSame stock as the menu
Window, read from outside80–100 mmReverse-cut vinyl

Matte over gloss, always. Gloss lamination under restaurant downlights reflects straight into the camera and the code will not read. And leave the quiet zone — four modules of clear space on every side, uncropped.

Beyond the menu

One code, more than one job

Point the code at a landing page rather than the menu file directly, and that page can carry the menu plus a booking link, the Wi-Fi password, your review link, and today's specials. You change the page whenever you like; the printed code never changes.

This is the practical answer to the update problem. You do not need a paid dynamic code service — you need one page you control.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is there a monthly fee for a QR menu?
Not here. The code is a static image you own outright. Paid services charge monthly for the redirect layer and analytics, which a menu rarely needs.
Can I update the menu without reprinting the codes?
Yes, as long as the URL stays the same. Change the page content and every printed code shows the new menu instantly.
What size should a table QR code be?
35–40 mm on a table tent is comfortable for a diner scanning from a seated position. Never smaller than 25 mm.
Do QR menus put customers off?
Some, particularly older diners and anyone with a low battery. Best practice is to offer both — keep a stack of printed menus and treat the code as the fast option.
